About Sara L. Houser

Active in the Austin music scene for over a decade, Sara L. Houser’s contributions have never been singular. Much of her career has been defined by her behind the scenes roles as a sought after collaborator in the studio world (Spoon, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Walker Lukens) and as a touring musician for big name acts Zella Day and Matthew Logan Vasquez

In 2021, she departed from her long standing indie rock outfit Löwin and started releasing music as S. L. Houser. Her new record, Hibiscus, was released in November of 2023 via Spaceflight Records. Hibiscus, is a spyglass look into the mind of a self-described recovering workaholic. The 6 song EP has been added to rotation at 64 non-comm stations nationwide and has charted in NACC’s Top 200 since its release. Hibiscus was reissued on vinyl with bonus tracks in August 2024 in partnership with Try Hard Coffee and Spaceflight Records.

S. L. Houser was the KUTX January Artist of the Month in 2024 and nominated for Musician of the Year in the Austin Chronicle’s Austin Music Awards. Houser is a producer, arranger and music educator. In 2024, she formed Sirenhouse LLC as a way to distinguish her composition/film scoring/arranging work from her own songwriting. Houser’s compositional style is largely influenced by the marriage of her classical piano background and indie rock career. She likens herself to liminal space composers that have similarly had a foot in both classical/jazz and modern worlds like Johnny Greenwood, Brian Eno, and Hildur Guðnadóttir.

She most recently released a reinterpreted version of the Eurythmics’ 1983 hit song “Here Comes the Rain Again” just weeks out from her debut at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. This is her first release since the Hibiscus album, ushering in a new era and offering a peak into the aesthetic and sound she will be fostering on her second album.
